I’m Jay Dee Gresham. I write science fiction, fantasy, westerns, political fiction, and whatever other kinds of stories I find worth telling.
A lot of my stories start with a question or situation that makes me wonder what a person would actually do if it happened to them. I like following that question far enough to see where it leads.
My current primary project is The Resurgence Chronicles, beginning with The Expedition, The Holographic Girl, and The Trade. The three stories begin along separate paths, but those paths are moving toward the same point of convergence.
What I Write
I write across multiple genres, but I keep coming back to stories where choices have consequences, people are tested by circumstances they did not choose, and the world around them matters to what happens next.
Science Faction
When I write science fiction, I try to build as much as possible from established fact, current science, and plausible theory. From there, I ask what might happen if we push those ideas farther.
I think of that approach as “Science Faction”—fiction that may go beyond what we can do today, but tries to keep one foot planted in what we know, or reasonably think might be possible.
Working With Me
Alongside my own writing, I am beginning to offer another kind of work: outside assessment for writers and creators who want a careful look at what they are building.
My Clarity & Structure Editorial Review is currently available for writers who want another pair of eyes on the clarity, structure, and overall effectiveness of their work—or two pairs, since I wear glasses.
I may develop other kinds of assessments or ways to help as I find areas where I can genuinely offer something useful. When I do, I’ll add them here.
